Appeal No. 2002-0816 Application No. 09/442,895 Page 2 understanding of the invention can be derived from a reading of exemplary claim 1, which is reproduced as follows: 1. A rotating electrical machine having an outer housing carrying a stator, a rotor journaled within said outer housing for rotation about a rotor axis and cooperating with said stator, said stator being formed by a plurality of armatures having poles and surrounding radially extending armatures windings, a first plurality of circumferentially spaced permanent magnets carried on said rotor for cooperation with said armature, and a magnet carrier fixed for rotation with said rotor for cooperation with a detector fixed to said outer housing for controlling said armature windings, said magnet carrier carrying a second plurality of circumferentially spaced permanent magnets spaced axially from said first plurality of circumferentially spaced permanent magnets and disposed radially inwardly of a radial inner periphery of said armature windings.
