Appeal No. 2002-0328 Application No. 09/250,324 use of the display tiles in a display device, it does not provide any suggestion for modifying Wei to implement its display device as a part of a tiled display (brief, page 22; reply brief, page 4). Appellants further assert that, without a basis for combining the references and the fact that the LCD display of Mazurek is a transmissive device, it would not be obvious to place any electronic circuitry on the back of the display tile of Mazurek (brief, page 23). The Examiner’s arguments are focused on the teachings of Mazurek (col. 3, lines 25-26) that relate to a tiled modular display having the driving and timing circuitry coupled to the surface of a circuit board opposite the pixel structure (answer, page 11). The Examiner also asserts that Wei is relied on for teaching a circuit board having the pixel driving and timing circuitry on the surface of the circuit board opposite the pixel structure (id.), while Spindt discloses a display memory that is controlled by the display circuit (answer, page 12). After reviewing Mazurek, we agree with the Examiner that the reference discloses a tiled modular display wherein each one of the display modules contains a display driver circuit board.
