Therefore, we find Appellants’ arguments (brief, page 23) that because Mazurek relates to a tiled LCD display, “it would not be obvious to mount any electronic circuitry on the back of the display tile disclosed by Mazurek” to be unpersuasive. Mazurek, in fact, provides for the driving circuitry on a circuit board as a part of each display tile (col. 3, lines 24-26) which as depicted in Figures 24 and 25, includes circuit 1810 for controlling the image display, timing control circuit 2010 and frame memory units 2030/2040 on the circuit board associated with each tile (col. 21, line 60 through col. 22, line 8). Therefore, one of ordinary skill in the art would have combined the references and would have used the via holes of Wei for connecting the contacts of the matrix display with the contacts on the top surface of the circuit board in the tiled display of Mazurek. In this case the reason for the modification comes not only from the benefits of using the via holes for providing the connections in Wei but from the need for such compact arrangement disclosed in Mazurek where the memory, the drive circuitry and the timing circuitry are on the circuit board surface opposite to the pixel structure.
