             Application No. 08/821,320

In addressing the point of contention, the Board conducts a two-step analysis.
First, we construe the claim at issue to determine its scope. Second, we determine
whether the construed claim would have been obvious.

                                              1. CLAIM CONSTRUCTION
"Analysis begins with a key legal question — what is the invention claimed?"
             Panduit Corp. v. Dennison Mfg. Co., 810 F.2d 1561, 1567, 1 USPQ2d 1593, 1597 (Fed.
Cir. 1987). Here, claim 9 recites in pertinent part the following limitations: "editing said
proposed script displayed in said text display section to generate an edited script for
defining an audio portion to accompany said video clip including a changed script so
that a time duration for reading said edited script, and therefore a time duration of said
audio portion matches a time duration of said video clip. . . ." Giving the independent
claim its broadest, reasonable construction, the limitations require editing a script that
defines an audio portion to accompany a video clip so that the time required to read the
script aloud and, therefore, the time required for the audio portion, matches the time
required to play the video clip.
