Appeal No. 2005-1969 2 Application No. 09/933,291 INTRODUCTION The claims are directed to a case-ready package for containing a food product (see claim 1), a packaged product comprising a food product in a case-ready package (see claim 21), and a process for making a case-ready package (see claim 23). According to the specification, “the invention pertains to the packaging of food products which exude juice, such as meat products, with the package containing an absorbent pad for soaking up the excess liquid.” (specification, p. 1, ll. 2-4). In particular, according to the specification, “the invention is particularly directed to a package designed to be placed into a display case for sale, i.e., a ‘case-ready’ package.” (specification, p. 1, ll. 4-5). Claim 1 is illustrative of the subject matter on appeal: 1.
