Appeal 2007-0195 Application 10/895,515 appeal involves only claims 1-6, 8, 9, and 11-21, the only pending claims. We have jurisdiction over this appeal under 35 U.S.C. § 6 (2002). Appellant’s claimed invention is directed to aquatic propulsion systems and methods of manufacturing such aquatic propulsion systems and, in particular, to training aids for swimming (Specification 1:5-6). Appellant's invention seeks to place the anatomy, and in particular the hand, forearms, fingertips, and elbow, of a swimmer in the most efficient position for providing a uniform application of force on the pulling surface and an increased surface area for holding water to generate more power and speed (Specification 2:1-4 and 15-17). This efficient position is generally known as the "paddle-blade position" (Specification 2:4-5). Independent claims 1 and 11 are illustrative of the claimed invention and read as follows: 1. An aquatic propulsion device comprising: a hand support surface on a hand support; and a linking element extending from the hand support, the linking element being located and adapted to receive the wrist of a user and set the hand and forearm of the user in a predetermined alignment. 11.
