Appeal 2007-0473 Application 09/969,584 includes means for decentering the impedance matching of the antenna of the terminal that are activated only when the device is in send mode (Specification 3: 14-21). Appellants’ means for decentering the impedance matching of the antenna of the terminal can consist of means for centering the matching of the antenna to optimize its efficiency (Specification 5:31- 33). Appellants state that an exemplary means for centering the matching of the antenna of the terminal consists of a matching circuit having a Pi or T structure with a reactive component switched by means of a PIN diode (Specification 6:2-4). The prior art Tuttle patent describes that “the transmitting sensitivity of the antenna 18 can be modified by impedance matching, or intentional mis-matching of components forming the antenna circuit 46 during transmitting modes of operation. (Col. 5, ll. 22-26; apparatus shown in Fig. 5). The prior art Tuttle patent further describes means for impedance matching or mismatching that (Col. 5:33-42): Preferably, the receiver sensitivity of the device 14 is adjusted by matching or mismatching the impedance of the antenna 18 with respect to a circuit element that has a current adjustable impedance. Preferably, the impedance adjustable circuit element is a Schottky diode that is electrically configured to receive a dc bias current. The diode is forward biased by the current which changes impedance of the diode, and allows for realization of a desired impedance as will be discussed pursuant to FIGS. 3-7. Alternatively, the diode can be reverse biased. 4Page: Previous 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Next
