Appeal 2007-3794 Application 10/850,517 II. Findings of Fact ("FF") The following findings of fact are supported by a preponderance of the evidence of record. To the extent any "finding of fact" is a conclusion of law, it should be so treated. A. Appellants' Specification [1] Paper-faced foam boardstocks are said to be known in the art, e.g., for use in structural siding products (Spec., p. 1, l. 8 - p. 2, l. 10). [2] Paper-faced foams are also said to require moisture resistance for structural integrity (Specification, p. 1, ll. 22-24). [3] Impregnating a paper facer of the foam product with silane, preferably an organosilane such as methyltrichlorosilane, is said to provide the product with waterproof properties and resistance to delamination and dimensional changes with aging and exposure to adverse weather conditions (Specification, p. 12, ll. 1-5). [4] The foam core of the product may be formed of rigid polyisocyanurate foam (Specification, p. 4, ll. 19-22). B. Geary [5] Geary discloses a composite board comprising a filled polyisocyanurate foam center board and facers of cellulosic materials, e.g., paper or cardboard, reinforced with glass strands and/or glass fibers, mated with the upper and lower surfaces of the center board (Geary, p. 2, ¶ 27; p. 3, ¶¶ 32-33; Fig. 1). [6] The Examiner found that Geary does not disclose treating the paper facers with silane (Sub. Answer, 3). obvious over Bondoc (US 4,543,158) and Bieri (US 3,389,042).
