                                                    Grounds of Rejection                                                       
                      Claim 21 stands rejected under (1) 35 U.S.C. § 102(a) as anticipated by                                  
              Portoghese et al.; and (2) 35 U.S.C. § 112, first and second paragraphs, as based on a                           
              non-enabling disclosure "and/or" failing to particularly point out and distinctly claim the                      
              subject matter which applicant regards as the invention.                                                         
                      On consideration of the record, we reverse these rejections.                                             


                                                        Background                                                             
                      The claimed invention is directed to a method for blocking L-opioid receptors in                         

              mammalian tissue comprising contacting said receptors with an effective amount of a                              
              compound of the formula:
