              Appeal No. 2000-1414
              Application No. 08/840,351

columns 7-8 teach away from using a mirror. While Hellstrom does disclose that
specular reflection is not desirable, it is our view that this is due to the orientation of the
optics rather than a specific prohibition of reflected light. Additionally, we find the
inclusion of Taylor in the combination as unnecessary, as discussed above. Therefore,
this argument is not persuasive, and we will sustain the rejection of dependent claims 6
              and 25.
                                                    CONCLUSION
To summarize, the decision of the examiner to reject claims 1, 3, 4, 6, and 21-25
under 35 U.S.C. § 103 is affirmed, and the decision of the examiner to reject claims 2,
              9-14, and 16-20 under 35 U.S.C. § 103 is reversed.
