The examiner contends that Kemink teaches a web site
containing macros, but does not expressly teach a macro including
pre-programmed sequences each comprising instructions for causing
one or more of the plurality of consumer electronic devices to
perform a plurality of operations when a configurable key of the
remote control is actuated.
The examiner relies on van Ee (the sequence of instruction
in Figures 3 and 4) for a macro associated with pre-programmed
sequences; (column 1, lines 42-44) for instructions for causing
one of the plurality of electronic consumer devices to perform a
plurality of operations when a configurable key of the remote
control is actuated.
The examiner concludes that it would have been obvious to
have included macros associated with pre-programmed sequences
each comprising instructions for causing one of the plurality of
consumer electronic devices to perform a plurality of operations
when a configurable key of the remote control is actuated in the
device of Kemink “because Kemink has macro programming remote
control function of appliance and van Ee teaches macros
associated with pre-programmed sequences each comprising
instructions for causing one of the plurality of consumer
electronic devices to perform a plurality of operations when a
