Appeal 2007-1978 Application 10/185,702 have jurisdiction under 35 U.S.C. § 6(b) to decide this appeal. We affirm-in- part. The Invention Appellants invented a method and system for transmitting data over a switched network without using the transport control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) to route the data. When the data is stored in contiguous sectors of a storage system, the data is read or accessed in one read request. Alternatively, when the data is stored in non-contiguous sectors, the data is read or accessed through multiple read requests. (Specification 11-13). An understanding of the invention can be derived from exemplary independent claim 1, which reads as follows: 1.
