                 Appeal 2007-1978
                 Application 10/185,702

                        3. Alternatively, the server reads and accesses the requested data
through multiple read requests when the data is stored in non-contiguous
sectors of the storage device. (Id.)

                                             The Prior Art Relied Upon
                        4. As depicted in Figures 1 and 2, Matsunami discloses a disk
storage system including a switch (having a plurality of clients (30)) for
accessing data in a plurality of disk arrays (10) via a disk array switch (20).
Each disk array includes a plurality of disk units (104) which contain the
                 data. (Col. 4, ll. 16-31.)
                        5. As shown in Figure 11, to access in a storage region, the host
submits a request to the disk array switch which maps the request to the
address space of targeted storage region. (Col. 6, ll. 35-45.)
                        6. Matsunami further discloses, to access a frame stored in
memory, the client issues a request including the logical unit number (LUN)
of the small computer system interface (SCSI) and the command description
block (CBD) associated therewith. The CBD, in turn, includes the command
bytes required to access the disk array, the transfer start logic address (LEA)
and the transfer length (LEN). (Col. 8, ll. 34-40, col. 9, ll. 19-60.)
                        7. Beardsley discloses, in order to read and access data in a
storage device (6), a host device (4) issues to a controller (8) a SCSI READ
command including a logical block address field and a transfer length field.
The logical block address indicates the address of the first fixed block
                                                           7
