Appeal 2007-1420 Application 10/992,431 admit that the axial bearings in claim 10 are already taught in Jesinger. The reader should recall that the upper and lower herringbone bearings 90 and 92 in figure 2 correspond to the radial or journal gas bearings. These are briefly mentioned in the middle of the abstract. Additionally, the Examiner’s expansive readings of Jesinger are consistent with this understanding as well as Nims to convey to the artisan an enhanced motivation to have used or otherwise interpreted Jesinger as already teaching the capabilities of separate air bearings that are respective thrust bearings and journal bearings. In view of the foregoing, the decision of the Examiner rejecting various claims on appeal under 35 U.S.C. §§ 102 and 103 is affirmed. No time period for taking any subsequent action in connection with this appeal may be extended under 37 C.F.R. §1.136(a). See 37 C.F.R. § 1.136(a)(1)(iv).
