We will sustain the examiner’s rejection of claims 3-6 essentially for the
reasons stated by the examiner. In short, we see no reason why removable
printing plates could not be applied to plate cylinders in a web-based system.
We agree with the examiner that the skilled artisan would have ample motivation
to utilize removable printing plates in Simeth’s web-based printing unit so that,
among other things, the plates could be quickly and easily removed for repair or
replacement.
In summary, we have sustained the examiner's rejection with respect to all
claims on appeal. Therefore, the decision of the examiner rejecting claims 1-6,
14-17, and 19 is affirmed.
