Appeal 2007-0563 Application 10/001,940 1 The Examiner’s argument that all points within the Iwamura display 2 should be rendered and addressable by the pointing device does not mean 3 that a color value of all of the points, or pixels of the Iwamura display device 4 are stored. Importantly, the Examiner has not demonstrated that a color 5 value for each pixel in the Iwamura display device is necessarily stored for 6 rendering or retrieval purposes. 7 For these reasons, we cannot sustain the rejection of independent 8 claim 1 or claims 2-10 which depend either directly or indirectly from claim 9 1. Independent claim 37 includes similar language of storing “a respective 10 color value for each pixel in the display device.” For the same reason, the 11 Examiner has failed to sufficiently demonstrate that either Iwamura or 12 Montgomery describe storing a color value for each pixel in the display 13 device. Accordingly, we will not sustain the rejection of claim 37. 14 Applicants argue claims 1-38 as a group. In the brief, Applicants state 15 that all of the independent claims similarly recite “a color value stored for 16 each pixel in the display device” (FF 8). That statement is inaccurate. Only 17 independent claims 1 and 37 recite such language. While independent 18 claims 11 and 22 recite storing a color value for each location[of an object] 19 in a two-dimensional display device, Applicants have failed to address why 20 Montgomery, which Applicants acknowledge does store a color value for 21 each object, fails to meet the limitation in independent claims 11 and 22. 22 Moreover, none of the other independent claims recite storing a color value 23 at all.
