- 32 - there was concern over "error recovery" to maintain data integrity --the need to return the system to its state prior to the transaction in the event the transaction process failed. In order to address the problem of error recovery, the technical support staff developed a design through macros (code that is frequently used throughout the system and which, through standardization, ensures data integrity and reliability). All of these technical concerns were addressed and ultimately led to an initial design and conceptualization of the TPF system for Success. Following the development of a basic design of the TPF system, the project was divided into smaller projects and assigned to different analysts. Code development then began, including the development of macros. (Following the coding process, the divided projects were reintegrated for the testing phase.) Additionally, some redesigning occurred upon the discovery of concepts which did not operate as anticipated. Throughout this development phase, unit testing occurred on two separate test beds (one for the TPF system and the other for the IBM MVS reporting system) followed by systems testing (e.g., the TPF with the Tandem system) and acceptance testing for the users. This coding and testing phase lasted 1-1/2 to 2 years. Success was implemented and placed into production following the coding and testing phases, although there was some delay.
