Appeal 2007-2533 Application 09/972,434 1 The Appellants invented a user interface for conducting contractual activity 2 over a computer network and for carrying out contractual activities between 3 contracting parties (Specification 1:5-9). The invention does this by automating 4 the contract negotiation and preparation cycle, and electronically facilitating 5 subsequent contractual activities executed pursuant to the contract. The invention 6 generates a contract between a seller and a buyer in the form of a Business Rules 7 Book (BRB) maintained by an administering organization, for example the seller, 8 containing a set of rules which may be included in the contract. The seller selects a 9 Terms and Conditions Set, and the seller and the buyer settle the provisions of the 10 contract by agreeing to a mutually acceptable Terms and Conditions Set 11 (Specification 6:5-14). 12 An understanding of the invention can be derived from a reading of exemplary 13 claim 1, which is reproduced below [bracketed matter and some paragraphing 14 added]. 15 1.
